REALM CHARTER SCHOOL'S
LUNCH ROOM
ABOUT
For the past 3 years, I have been the lead design and build educator of Studio H. Studio H is an in-school design/build class for 9th-12th grade students based at Realm Charter School in Berkeley, CA. Studio H students apply their core subject learning to design and build audacious and socially transformative projects.
For the first Semester of the 2017-2018 academic calendar year, students at Realm Charter School focused on designing and building new furniture for their school's lunch room.

The high school changed location the Summer prior, and once students began their school year, they noticed that there was a need for a space where they could eat lunch, and hang out with their friends. This was their response to meeting that need.

The construction was done using only 2x4s and hardware. Students learned basic framework, structural engineering, and became experts in using tools such as the chop saw, and impact drivers.

Overall, the project was a huge success as Realm's students use the furniture daily!
